I am currently applying for the Watson Fellowship, which would allow me to create a documentary on my South Korean Identity. I have never been back to South Korea and have grown up with a Swedish mother and a Caucasian father in Fort Collins, CO. With a very limited Asian population in CO, I have never really been able to grasp my Korean heritage and have been in a search for uncovering who I am. At this time in my life however, I am not necessarily yearning to find my birth parents, but I am interested to travel. However, I also have a sister who is adopted from South Korea (three years younger then me) who has expressed much more interest in contacting her birth parents.
This sparked an idea: creating a documentary about the personal journeys of five Korean adoptees, including my sister, going back to South Korea to find their birth parents. This is a very meaningful project for me and it will be a great opportunity to receive this fellowship.
I would love to hear from anyone who is a Korean Adoptee, has done something with film, or has something say. Looking forward to any responses.

ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm wondering whatever happened to this guy, too.
ReplyDeleteMaybe he's got a new blog somewhere or he didn't get the fellowship.
